Hi, I’m Betsy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) and the founder of Crossroads Counseling of East Texas. My journey began at the University of Texas at Tyler, where I earned my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My clinical foundation was built at a Children’s Advocacy Center, where I supported families through deep-seated trauma and eventually served as Clinical Director.
Today, I combine that leadership experience with a lifelong passion for advocacy. I specialize in working with children and teens who are struggling to communicate their pain, as well as adults standing at their own personal crossroads. My goal is to be the teammate you need to sort through the noise and find a path toward healing. Whether you are facing a major life change or healing from the past, I offer a secure environment where you can finally feel heard and supported
My Approach
Who wants to get into the nitty gritty and tell a stranger everything about them? Not many people look forward to this part.
Talking about the good, bad, and ugly takes time and trust. That’s why my approach in therapy is to get to know who you are and where you come from before we get into all the other details.
Therapy isn’t like a cookie cutter, it’s just not the same for everyone. My way of therapy will allow you to go at your own pace while encouraging you to use and see your inner strengths. My goal is to help you through your healing journey and allow you to find what you are capable of accomplishing.
What is TF-CBT?
Trauma-Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma as well as their parents/caregivers.
TF-CBT addresses many traumatic symptoms, which could include: anxiety, anger, depression, sexual concerns, self-harm, and behavioral problems. As well as improving the distress of parents and caregivers, concerning the child’s traumatic experience.
What is person-centered?
Person-Centered therapy generally relies on 3 conditions:
Empathetic Understanding: this is where I will be trying to understand your point of view.
Congruence: in which the counselor will be genuine with you.
Unconditional-Positive Regard: where the counselor is not judgmental.
Ultimately, the goal is for the client to learn the skills they need to face future challenges on their own.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a form of therapy that aims to help clients process difficult emotions or traumatic experiences. In brainspotting, different eye positions help identify “brainspots” linked to certain experiences, emotions, or areas of distress. Once they are identified, your therapist uses mindfulness techniques to help you access, and process the thoughts and feelings stored in that capsule.
Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that helps to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.
